AVENGING AMBER
Although I gently touched the three, red, long-stemmed roses that I placed on my father’s gravesite, I still managed to prick my finger on a thorn. A single drop of blood puddled on my finger tip and I placed it in my mouth. If my father was alive, he would have kissed it and made it better but the reality was he wasn’t alive and I was alone. I pulled my finger out of my mouth and looked at it. Seeing that the blood had disappeared, I stood up. Stretching my long arms into the air, I did a motion that cracked my back, which was cramped from sitting on the fading grass for over an hour. I had so much to say to my father since the last time I visited a month ago, feeling slightly relieved after getting it off my chest. I held back tears that I would have normally allowed to fall.
Today felt different. It was the second year anniversary of his tragic death. A death that was unsolved and unjustified; his death took a part of me with him when he left.
I wiped off my light grey Prada dress pants and adjusted my matching blazer. I ran my professionally manicured French-tipped fingers through my long, honey blonde streaked, naturally curly hair that I had straightened out. Then I placed my silver trimmed Michael Kors shades on, covering my hazel eyes. Although the sun was blinding me, I wouldn't dare talk to my father with shades on, disrespecting the powerful, good man that he was.
My father was the only man I ever loved. After my mother died from breast cancer when I was three years old, he raised me as a single father. I barely remember her but I could tell from their numerous wedding pictures that we looked exactly alike. Our creamy almond skin, long slender noses, and gorgeous smiles with perfect, pearly white teeth were identical. Our height was the same–five feet, six inches. Also, I have the same curvy build, which we both inherited from her mother. If I hadn’t been blessed with good looks, I could definitely say I was blessed with a nice shape. My father would brag about him meeting my mother in high school and being her one and only man. He told me how she valued her body and attempted to instill the same morals in me. There was a big difference however, my mother wasn’t spoiled rotten but I was. My father always called me a triple threat–beauty, body, and brains.
